Prosecution opens probe as man kills 5 before turning gun on himself in Cairo’s Zamalek

CAIRO – 5 February 2022: Egypt’s Public Prosecution has opened a probe as a man killed five people in an apartment in the classy district of Zamalek in Cairo and then killed himself, a statement by the prosecution said on Saturday.

The man shot down a woman who he had a relation with in the apartment in the presence of their families using a shotgun and then shot those who tried to stop him dead, seven witnesses told the prosecution, according to the statement.

When police tried to enter the house, the man killed the woman and her mother before he turned the gun on himself, according to the witnesses.

The man’s sister said he was admitted to a psychiatric clinic about three months ago, according to the prosecution’s statement.

The Public Prosecution delegated the forensic doctors to conduct the post-mortem examination, police investigations about the incident were requested, and investigations are being completed, the prosecution added.
