CAIRO – 5 February 2022: Moroccan child Rayan Awram, who was trapped in a 32-meter-deep well near Chefchaouen for around five days breathed his last on Saturday as heroic rescue teams dug a tunnel for days to reach the child.

Moroccan King Mohammed VI extended condolences to family of the deceased child, who breathed his last and was pulled from the well.

The king confirmed that he was closely following Rayan’s incident and ordered exerting utmost efforts to save the life of the deceased but the will of God wanted him to come back to his Lord "well-pleased and well-pleasing."

Rescue teams had abandoned the option of digging into the water well due to dangers on the child and instead, bulldozers have been drilling vertically a hole parallel to the well and horizontally to reach the place of the child over the past days.

Rescuers had been also digging manually in the last stages of the rescue operation to avoid harming the child.
