CAIRO- 5 February 2022: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi participated in the opening ceremony of the 24th Winter Olympics in the Chinese capital, Beijing, along with Chinese President Xi Jinping, President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, and a number of heads of state and government.
 
President Sisi arrived in Beijing on Thursday evening to attend the opening ceremony of the games that kicked off Friday and would last until February 20.

President Sisi’s participation came at Chinese President Xi Jinping’s invitation, in light of the close and strategic relations between Egypt and China, Rady added.
 
It is scheduled that President Sisi would hold visit a mini-summit with President Xi Jinping to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations that have witnessed a qualitative leap in recent years at all levels, said Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady in a statement on Thursday.

Chinese Ambassador in Cairo Liao Liqiang asserted that the participation of President Sisi in the inaugural ceremony of the Olympics reflects the inclusive strategic partnership between Egypt and China.
 
In statements on Thursday, the ambassador said that Chinese President Xi Jinping will hold a banquet in honor of foreign leaders who will attend the inaugural ceremony of the Olympics.
