CAIRO - 26 January 2022: Egyptian Veteran Journalist Yasser Rizk died Wednesday morning at the age of 57 years old due to a sudden heart attack, according to news reports. 

From 2014 until 2020, Rizk served as the board chairman of Akhbar El-Youm press organisation from 2014 until 2020. 

Rizk had recently issued his new book Sanawat el-Khamasin (The Years of Wind) highlighting the period between the January 25th Revolution in 2011 and the overthrow of the former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013. 

 

In the below lines, et highlights some information about Rizk:

 

1-   Yasser Rizk was born in Ismailia Governorate in 1965.

 

2- Graduated from the Faculty of Mass Communication, Cairo University in 1986.

 

3- Yasser Rizk started his journalistic work at Akhbar Al-Youm for 30 years.

 

4- He began his work in the institution since he was a first-year student at the Faculty of Mass Communication, from which he graduated in 1986.

 

5- He moved between several sections of the newspaper "Al-Akhbar", before working as a military editor.

 

6- He worked as a delegate for the newspaper in the Presidency of the Republic until 2005.

 

7- In 2005, Rizk assumed the position of editor-in-chief of the State Radio and Television Magazine as well.

 

8- After spending 6 years managing the affairs of the magazine issued by "Maspero", Rizk returned to Akhbar Al-Youm Foundation again, but as editor-in-chief of its daily newspaper, on January 18, 2011, about a week before the outbreak of the January 25 revolution.

 

9- He continued to lead the work in it successfully, during which he was able to raise its distribution, until he was “overthrown” from its chief editorship, by the Supreme Council of the Press, which was dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood group at that time.  

 

10- Yasser Rizk moved to the private and independent press, after being chosen by the Board of Trustees of the "Al-Masry Al-Youm" Foundation on August 22, 2012, to be the editor-in-chief of its daily newspaper.

 

11- In October 2013, the late Yasser Rizk had his first dialogue with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, while he was Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense.

 

12- He held the chair of its editor-in-chief for a year and 3 months, until Rizk returned to Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper again, but this time as chairman of the board of directors.

 

13- He recently published his new book, a few days before his death (The Fifty Years... Between January of Anger and June of Salvation).
