CAIRO – 28 December 2021: Egyptian Ministry of Health announced that the Omicron mutant will most likely be the predominant mutant around the world with regard to infection cases with COVID-19 until the end of January 2022.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that this is based on evidence received about the new mutant.

He further stressed that citizens should get the 2-dose vaccination against COVID-19, and that those who already took the vaccination 6 months ago, should apply to get the third booster dose.

Abdel Ghaffar explained the importance of wearing a mask in crowded areas to prevent the infection, while maintaining social distancing, and conducting a rapid diagnostic test reduced presence in gathering places.
