CAIRO – 20 December 2021: The Ministry of Transportation announced Monday that six BRT stations will be established on the Ring Road connecting Greater Cairo together.

Minister Kamel al-Wazie had stated last week that crowdedness on the Ring Road would be eliminated in 2022 as bus rapid transit (BRT) will be substituted for random minibus stations on the highway.

Chairman of the Roads and Bridges Authority Hossam El Din Mostafa told Al Watan newspaper in November that microbuses will be banned completely from using the Ring Road by the end of December 2021.

The official pointed out that the alternative will be the BRT, which will have stations at major intersections.  He noted that the introduction of the BRT has been made possible through the ongoing expansion of that key road connecting Greater Cairo together.

There will be seven lanes in each direction, so as one will be allocated to the BRT, while the rest will be used by passenger cars.
