CAIRO – 19 December 2021: In a TV interview, Head of Protection Against Noise Department at the Ministry of Environment Rime Abdel Rahman stated that Cairo followed by Giza are the highest nationwide in terms of noise.

The official highlighted the regulations set in 2004 designating the noise limit allowed in different areas, and in different times, whether night or day. In noise-sensitive areas like hospitals, schools, libraries, and public parks, the noise level should not exceed 50 decibel in day and 40 decibel at night.

Regarding residential areas, the range is 55-70 decibel in day, and 45-60 decibel at night. As for industrial areas, the limit is 70 decibel day and night.

Abdel Rahman clarified that 38 stations dispersed across the country measure the noise level, and that 60 percent of noise is caused by vehicles. That is why the noise level in Ramses street in Cairo hits 80 decibel.
