CAIRO/DUNAI- 19 December 2021: Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit took part in the opening ceremony of the first Arabic Language Summit organized by the UAE Ministry of Culture in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Center For Arabic Language at Expo 2020 Dubai.


The pan-Arab body is attending the event, the first of its kind in the Arab world, as a guest of honor in recognition of its role in spreading the Arabic Language, a source at the AL general secretariat said.

Addressing the event, Abul Gheit said the Arabic language is the most important pillar in the unity of this nation, he said, adding that the Arabic language was also the inspiring element for the idea of ​​Arabism... an idea that is not based on race, religion or ethnicity... but on common civilization and culture, and the unity of historical experiment.

The Arabic language has remained a link between the various races and religions in the Arab region and it has succeeded in merging different minorities into one inclusive culture, he added.

He said the general secretariat of the Arab League, in cooperation with its partners, has launched the “Arabic Language Month” initiative, which is scheduled to take place from February 21, the day that marks the International Mother Language Day, until March 22, the date of the founding of the Arab League.

The summit is held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
