CAIRO – 15 December 2021: The New Valley Governorate is close to conclude the construction of the longest road network with lengths of more than 1,200 km as the New Year approaches.

 

The to-be-launched road network is considered an unprecedented development in the road sector in the governorate, spanning from Toshki in Aswan to 6 of October city in Giza, passing through Owainat, Dakhla, Farafra and Bahariya Oasis.

This comes within the framework of the government's keenness in the development of the New Valley Governorate, under the directives of President El-Sisi, which made the governorate enjoy the largest development budget in its history. In this regard, Minister of Transport Kamel Al-Wazir approved an amount of 125 million pounds to modify Negev route.

 

Part of the road network plan is the development of the Dakhla-East Owainat road, which is being implemented with the support of 16 contracting companies working on the road.

Work is underway under the supervision of an integrated team of engineers, technicians and workers to continue working in these rugged areas in order to complete the project and deliver the stage on time according to the agenda.

 

The axis is being implemented in 3 phases, with a length of 300 km, from the zero point to the end of the road. The current phase that is being implemented includes the appropriation of 80 million pounds, and until the end of the 100 kilometer, the cost will be 500 million pounds, as the executing company succeeded in penetrating the rugged Negev area at the highest point above the road level by about 500 meters.

Engineer Mervat Ibrahim Shehata, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport and Director of the General Authority for Roads and Bridges branch in the New Valley, said that the authority is completing the implementation of the project to amend the route of the Negev border area in the area of ​​kilo 70 on the Kharga-Assiut road, to reduce the danger of traffic in the Negev border on the road, provided that the project is implemented In two phases.

 

The Director of Roads added that the project includes the implementation of a 10-kilometre track, and surveying works have already been completed, for this distance from the 60th kilometer to the 70th kilometer west of the Negev region.
