US passenger arrested with jewelry worth EGP 2 million

CAIRO - 11 July 2017: A US passenger was arrested at Cairo airport over charges of trying to smuggle gold diamond jewelry worth EGP 2 million into the country, according to a source with the customs authorities.

The jewelry were found concealed in clothes in the luggage of the man, said the source, who did not identify him.

A report was filed and a case has been referred to the prosecution.

The seized jewelry violates law no. 68/1976.
