CAIRO - 9 December 2021: The Emergency Higher State Security Criminal Court handed down on Thursday a life sentence against 23 defendants. including founder of Hasm terrorist group Yahia Moussa and the brother of Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated businessman Hassan Malek over charges of joining a terrorist group and forging official papers to facilitate terrorists' travel abroad.
The court also sentenced 18 defendants implicated in the same case to 15 years in jail while it acquitted four others.
Investigations by public prosecution showed that the defendants led a terrorist group and were implicated in many crimes in the period from 2015 till November 2019.
They were charged with leading a terrorist group to change the ruling system by force, attempting to cripple the Constitution and law, undermine individual freedoms and disrupt national unity and social peace, in addition to assaulting army and police personnel and vandalizing State property.
