CAIRO- 26 November 2021: Obsessed by the glittering ceremony of the reopening of the Avenue of Sphinxes (the Road of the Rams) in Luxor on Thursday evening, South Korean ambassador to Egypt Hong Jin-wook appointed himself as an honorary Egyptian Cultural Ambassador to Seoul, on Friday.

Posing for a photo in the newly-reopened Avenue of Sphinxes,  He announced on his Twitter account that he would promote Egyptian tourist destinations to the Korean people, to “taste all those merits of the land, culture and the people.”

"That will surely lead into much stronger relations between Korea and Egypt by enhancing people to people understanding," he said in a statement released by the  South Korean embassy in Cairo on Friday.

Ambassador Hong Jinwook was only one the several tens of foreign ambassadors invited to this historic event, the statement said.

Despite the pandemic, he has been trying his best to travel as much as possible in this gorgeous country, starting from Alexandria, Portseid, Ismailia, El Gouna and down to Aswan and Abu Simbel.  What he was able to discover were not only cultural heritages already known but also the natural beauties of the land and most importantly the kind hospitality of its people, the statement added.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Egyptian people for their ever growing interests in so called Korean Wave; music, films and dramas just to name a few. Korean drama "Squid Game" recently became a great hit all around the world including Egypt, the statement continued.

In a glittering ceremony in the City of Sun, Luxor, Egypt reopened the 3,000-year-old Avenue of the Sphinxes, which lies between Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple.

The Pharaonic Avenue of Sphinxes is an open-air museum the Egyptian government re-opens on Thursday after years of excavations and restorations.

The 2,700-meter Rams Road was a road of major processions for the kings of the Pharaohs, and a festive avenue for various holidays, including the renowned Opet Festival- the Ancient Egyptian Festival celebrated in Thebes (Luxor) and the coronation feast of the king, especially during the New Kingdom of 1550 to 1069 BCE.
