Blinken to receive Shoukry in Washington for U.S.-Egypt Strategic Dialogue on Nov. 8

CAIRO - 5 November 2021: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and a companying delegation will head for Washington, D.C. on November 8 and 9 for the U.S.-Egypt Strategic Dialogue, said the US Department of State in a statement on Thursday.

 

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, enior officials from USAID and the Department of Defense will receive the Egyptian delegation.

 

“Following public remarks from Secretary Blinken and Foreign Minister Shoukry on November 8, at the opening of the dialogue, the delegation will discuss international and regional issues, human rights, and bilateral cooperation on economic, judicial, security, education, and cultural issues,” the US. Statement said.

 

“Egypt is a vital partner for the United States. We are committed to strengthening the forty-year U.S.-Egypt partnership by enhancing security cooperation, advancing human rights, and growing our significant economic relations and cultural ties. This Strategic Dialogue is an opportunity to advance each of these areas of collaboration to improve the lives of both Americans and Egyptians,” the statement read.

 

In September 2021, Shoukry met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern. The ministers met in New York on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said.

 

During this meeting, Shoukry and Blinken agreed on the importance to work on the good preparation of the next round of strategic dialogue between Egypt and the US in the near future.
