CAIRO – 10 July 2017: Groups of youth have been formed to follow up the phenomena of invasion of jellyfish along Egypt’s Mediterranean shores, which appeared early July, state-owned news agency MENA reported Advisor of Environment Minister Mostafa Fouda in a seminar on Monday.

The groups also tasked to receive complaints from the beach goers about on the jellyfish swarms, Fouda added.

“We rely on Egyptian and global experiences…the Ministry is coordinating with the concerned Ministries and the Suez Canal Authority,” he said.

A total of 28 types of jellyfish exist in the Mediterranean Sea, 12 of which are in the in the eastern the Mediterranean, he continued.

The Ministry of Environment has been studying the jellyfish invasion of the North Coast phenomenon, which began in July. A preliminary report has been submitted to the Cabinet, while a detailed report is being prepared, the minister stated in a previous statement on Sunday.
