CAIRO – 25 October 2021: Egypt’s Health Minister Hala Zayed announced Monday receiving the third shipment of Johnson & Johnson vaccine including 1,058,400 million doses.

This comes within the framework of the mechanism of the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) in cooperation with the African Export–Import Bank as part of the state's plan on diversity and expansion in providing anti-coronavirus vaccine.

Assistant Health Minister Khaled Megahed asserted the importance of continuous cooperation with the international organizations to stand against the coronavirus pandemic and provide the vaccine for the citizens.

The shipment will be distributed on 1,100 vaccination centers all over the governorates, he said.
He said that Johnson & Johnson vaccine is effective against coronavirus, urging the citizens to register to get the vaccine on http://www.egcovac.mohp.gov.eg.

He asserted that the Egyptian state saves no effort to provide vaccines for free for the citizens.
Egypt’s Health Ministry said, Sunday night that 886 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases reported in the country since the beginning of the outbreak to 324,619

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 43 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 18,285.

As many as 853 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 274,007 so far, the spokesman said.

On Oct.23, Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed said said that Egypt received the third shipment of Pfizer coronavirus vaccine at Cairo airport on Friday comprising 1.4 million doses offered by the US government through the COVAX initiative in cooperation with Gavi, the vaccine alliance.

US Ambassador Jonathan R. Cohen had said last week that the Pfizer vaccines are a direct donation from the people of the United States to the people of Egypt. “This is part of eight million Pfizer vaccine doses the United States is sending to Egypt.”

The shipments are part of 500 million Pfizer vaccine doses donated by the US to the African Union countries through the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX).

Egypt's first Pfizer vaccines shipment arrived from the US in late September.

Last week, Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said unvaccinated employees will not be allowed to enter to workplace within a short period of time.

Madbouly, in a meeting with governors, affirmed the availability of vaccine doses, urging governors to make sure all employees in the administrative bodies are vaccinated.

The premier urged governors to intensify awareness campaign regarding the importance of vaccination, especially in light of the Ministry of Health’s readiness to provide the required vaccine doses.
