Egypt received 60 million doses of different covid-19 vaccines: Health min. spokesperson

CAIRO – 5 October 2021: Egypt received up to 60 million doses so far of different covid-19 vaccines according to spokesperson for the Ministry of Health Khaled Mgahed, Tuesday.

He added that all these different doses have been distributed in 1100 vaccination centers all over the country.

Mgahed noted that 95 percent of workers in higher education and scientific research have been vaccinated, along with vaccinating 70% of workers in education and technical education.

He called on all university students to register and get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Health Ministry said that 771 new coronavirus cases were detected in Egypt over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 307,569.

In a statement on Tuesday, spokesman for the Health Ministry Dr Khaled Megahed said that 33 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 17,469.

As many as 700 patients were discharged from hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recoveries to 259,647, he added.

Egypt has announced it has entered the fourth wave of Coronavirus as infection rates climbed up. The Ministry of Health also announced that five different vaccines are now available in nearly 539 vaccine centers across the country against coronavirus.

The Ministry explained that all of the five vaccines have emergency approvals from the Egyptian Medicines Authority. The vaccines are: Sputnik V, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Johnson& Johnson and Sinovac.

The Ministry of Health and Population continues to raise its preparations in all governorates of the Republic, follow up on the situation first-hand regarding the virus, and take all necessary preventive measures.

Adviser to Egyptian President for health and preventive affairs Mohamed Taj el-Din stated that the fourth wave of Coronavirus has started in Egypt, expecting no soon end to the pandemic in the coming years.

Awad Taj El-Din added, in an interview in a TV interview on Wednesday, “we have exceeded 200 infection cases recorded per day, and this means that there is a significant increase in infections, especially the serious ones that need hospitalization.”

“The increase in infections indicates that Egypt has already entered the fourth wave of the Corona virus,” he continued, pointing out that there is an increase in the number of cases of Corona infection at the level of hospital admissions and the need for critical care.
