Egypt records 667 new COVID-19 cases, 39 deaths

CAIRO - 26 September 2021: The Health and Population Ministry said Saturday evening that 667 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country to 300945.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 39 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 17,149.

As many as 789 patients were discharged from hospitals after receiving medical care, taking the total number to 254,060 so far, the spokesman added.

The Greek government supported Egypt with 250,000 doses of the coronavirus vaccine “AstraZeneca”, announced the Egyptian Ministry of Health on Friday.

The shipment arrived in Egypt in the past two days, the statement added.

In her meeting with the Greek ambassador to Egypt Nikolaos Garilidis, Egyptian Minister of Health Hala Zayed appreciated the Greek government’s support provided.

The Greek Ambassador expressed his country's readiness to continue supporting Egypt’s health sector.

Zayed said the country has received a total of 33.657 million doses of AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sinopharm, Sputnik V and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

Egypt also plans to release 1.926 million doses of the locally-made Sinovac vaccine between 18 to 24 September, the minister said in a Cabinet meeting.
