The center said in a statement that it has been communicating with the Egyptian Food Safety Authority, which refuted such reports as "baseless."

The authority said all foodstuffs circulated in markets, including cooking salt are safe and fit for consumption,

Food commodities are all matching required criteria and specifications, it added.

The products are regularly monitored during different phases of production, distribution and display, according to it.

Such reports are meant to disrupt public order and trigger off outrage, the center said.

It urged all citizens not to be deceived by such reports and to immediately contact the authority if they have any query.
