CAIRO - 20 Septemebr 2020: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli chaired a meeting Sunday to follow up plans to establish sea water desalination plants.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el Saeed, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem El-Gazzar, Deputy Minister of Housing for Infrastructure Affairs Sayed Ismail, and Executive Director of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt Ayman Soliman attended the meeting.

The meeting reviewed efforts made within the state's strategic plan to expand the establishment of giant sea water desalination plants, in a way that contributes to maximizing the benefit from the country's extended coasts and meeting the necessary water requirements for residents of coastal cities, Madbouli said.

The government work to reach the best offers and prices for the establishment of sea water desalination plants, in addition to seeking to progressively settle the industry in Egypt by allocating a percentage for the local component.

The 2050 plan of the Housing Ministry aims to raise the total product of desalinated water to about 6 million cubic meters per day during the next five years.
