CAIRO - 28 August 2021: Evergreen Marine's EVER ACE, the world's largest container ship and the largest civilian hospital ship MV GLOBAL MERCY passed through the Egyptian Suez Canal for the first time on Saturday.
 
The Panama-flagged EVER ACE ship is en route from China to the port of Rotterdam of the Netherlands, said Chairman of the Egyptian Suez Canal Authority (SCA) admiral Osama Rabie in a statement.
 
The vessel withe capacity of  23,992 containers was escorted by giant tugboats while the SCA maritime guidance office provided assistance. The shipmaster was also given a gift as a souvenir, the statement said.  EVER ACE was built in 2021 and currently sailing under the flag of Panama and run by Evergreen company. 
 
The giant ship is 400 meters in length, 61.5 meters in width , with a total tonnage of 235,000 tons.
 
Meanwhile, the world's largest civilian hospital ship MV Global Mercy passed through the Egyptian Suez Canal for the first time, coming from Singapore  to Malta.
 
The Global Mercy “provides free lifesaving surgeries for people where medical care is nearly non-existent,” says the ship’s website.
