Egypt's FM confers with Somali PM on bilateral relations, issues of common interest

CAIRO - 17 August 2020: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday conferred with Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble on bilateral ties and issues of common interest.

This was announced by Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez on his Twitter account.

Meanwhile, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit met with Somali Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, who is currently on a visit to Egypt.

The meeting took up the latest developments in Somalia and efforts exerted by the government there to maintain security and stability, a source at the AL general secretariat said.

They also discussed ways to settle some pending financial problems in order to expedite the legislative elections in the African country before holding the presidential polls in October, the source added.

The Somali premier posted Abul Gheit on development projects his government intends to implement with the aim to revive the economy.

Mogadishu, he noted, counts on AL support for all its efforts to enhance security, stability and peace in the country.

Abul Gheit assured Roble that the AL would continue to support Somalia’s efforts to complete the legislative and presidential elections on time.

The pan-Arab body will also help Somalia implement its economic priorities and settle its Arab and foreign debts, he said.

The AL chief stressed the need for all Somali parties to continue constructive dialogue, which is the pillar of national unity in the country.

The Somali premier greatly appreciated AL efforts to support his country and people.
