CAIRO - 31 July 2020: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati announced that a high-profile Egyptian technical delegation would start a five-day visit to Iraq on Saturday to accelerate the activation of an MoU signed between the two countries in October 2020.

During their visit, the Egyptian technical delegation would probe with officials from the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources how to prepare a joint plan of action to advance cooperation on modern irrigation techniques, wastewater reuse and treatment methods, as well as eradicating desertification and aquatic weeds, Abdel Aati added.

The Egyptian delegation's visit to Baghdad comes in light the outcome of the first meeting of the joint Egyptian-Iraqi technical advisory committee on water resources and irrigation that explored opportunities for cooperation in the areas of water management, the irrigation minister noted.

Abdel Aati stressed the need to foster joint cooperation and coordination between the two countries to achieve sustainable development goals and ensure the optimum management of the limited water resources.
