CAIRO - 24 July 2020: The Cabinet media center on Saturday denied reports about increasing fees of public transportation after an increase of fuel prices.

The center in a statement said that it has contacted the Ministry of Local Development which denied the reports and said they were inaccurate.

The fees of all collective transportation means nationwide will remain the same without any increase, added the ministry.

The ministry also urged all media outlets and users of social media to be careful while publishing such reports.

Egypt's Fuel Automatic Pricing Committee decided to raise gasoline prices by 25 piasters per liter and to keep the prices of diesel and mazut unchanged until the end of September.

The new hike came into effect 9 AM on Friday, local time.

According to the new hike, the new prices per liter will be LE 6.75 for 80 octane gasoline, LE 8 for 92 octane gasoline, and LE 9 for 95 octane gasoline.

The price of diesel will remain standing at LE 6.75 per liter and mazut for the industrial sector will stand at LE 3900 per ton.

The committee said its decisions come due to the exceptional situation the world is witnessing due to the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

Egypt has raised the prices of fuel many times over the past few years, the last of which was in April, when the committee raised the price of gasoline by 25 piasters.
