CAIRO – 22 July 2021: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received Thursday in Egypt a delegation from Lurssen Defense to examine ways of developing the Egyptian naval industries system and plans of technological upgrade in the sector.

The meeting was attended by Commander of the Egyptian Naval Force Ahmed Khaled and CEO of the German shipyard Peter Lurssen among others.

The plan includes introducing the most modern technology in shipbuilding and training engineers and technicians.

Earlier this month, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated Egypt’s latest naval base, the 3 July Base, in Gargoub on the northwestern coast near Libya.

The president arrived to inaugurate the military base, where he inspected the new naval vessels at the base.

Sisi accompanied Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed and Head of the Libyan Presidential Council Mohammed Menfi in his tour at the 3 July Base.

A video published by the military said the 3 July Base is the latest to fulfill the combat missions of the Egyptian Northern Fleet to confront security challenges and to protect Egyptian resources along Egypt's regional water in the Mediterranean Sea.

The base is a huge scope that extends over an area of over 10 million square meters and a unique geographic location that achieves more additional capabilities for securing the northern coasts, the video said.

The base’s facilities conform to the code of the global military bases, the video added.

The base includes 74 facilities and contains a lot of combat units, operations center, joint exercise center, 7 training fields and a military pier at a length of 1000 meters and a depth of 14 meters.

The base includes a number of commercial piers at a length of 2200 meters and a depth of 17 meters and a watchtower for the port at a height of 29 meters.

The base includes two breakwaters at a length of 3,650 meters, a medical point, fences with monitoring cameras and gates with strong barriers.

The base is an integrated military scope that forms a launching base to protect the ownership and wealth of the Egyptian nation in the Mediterranean Sea.

Today, the Egyptian flag is raised above 47 naval vessels so that they can start their service in the Egyptian navy, the video added.
