CAIRO - 20 June 2021: Egypt called for a comprehensive negotiation process between the Palestinians and Israelis, said Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Hafez in a statement on Friday.

The call was issued in a phone call between the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and his Israeli counterpart Yair Lapid.  Shoukry congratulated him on assuming his new post.

“Minister Shoukry asserted to his Israeli counterpart the need to move the current stalemate between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, leading to the launch of a comprehensive negotiation process, in a manner that ensures the consolidation of the pillars of stability in the region,” Hafez said.

“Shoukry also affirmed that Egypt will continue to play its role in supporting all endeavors aimed at achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East in accordance with international law and the relevant Security Council resolutions,” he added.

Hafez said that Minister Shoukry stressed the need to prevent the escalation of tensions between the two parties, which threatens to exacerbate the situation once again, in addition to advancing reconstruction efforts and development support for all other regions of the Palestinian territories, while stressing Cairo's keenness to proceed with practical and serious steps towards achieving security and stability for all peoples of the region.
