European Council President voices appreciation of Sisi's efforts to secure Gaza ceasefire

CAIRO - 5 June 2020: President of the European Council Charles Michel voiced deep appreciation of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's hard efforts to secure a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.


Presidential Spokesman Bassam Radi said President Sisi underscored during a phone call Wednesday with the European Council's president Egypt's keenness on boosting ties with the European Union (EU); being a strategic partner in various domains.

The president said Egypt is looking forward to boosting ties with the EU in the political, economic and military fields, according to the spokesman.

Talks also pored over an array of issues of mutual concern, including regional issues, along with ways to promote bilateral ties, the spokesman said.

The latest Palestinian Israeli developments figured high during the call, said the spokesman, adding that President Sisi reviewed with Michel Egypt's efforts to consolidate the Gaza Ceasefire, along with contributing to reconstruction efforts in the enclave and coordinating with the international community on this score.

Concerning the situation in Libya, the two sides also agreed on the necessity of continuing consultations in this respect in support of Libya's interests.

They also tackled the EU's efforts in support of development in the African Continent, together with the necessity of continued EU support to African countries to face up to Covid-19 the repercussions.

Michel reiterated the Council's interest in promoting ties between Egypt and the EU on the various levels, highlighting Egypt's pivotal regional role.
