CAIRO – 5 June 2021: A fire broke out in a penal institution for children in Cairo’s Al-Marg district on Friday, causing six children to die and injuring around 15 others.

The Egyptian prosecution is conducting an investigation into the incident.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the fire was caused by a short circuit.

Further details are yet to be revealed after the official investigation.

This comes a month after a huge fire that broke out at a church in Giza, known as the church of angel Suriel and Mar Mina. It was brought under control without any casualties, the Giza Diocese said.

The fire took place as Christian people in Egypt and many other countries were celebrating the “Good Friday”.

The Giza Diocese said the fire took place after the prayers and after worshippers left the place.

The civil protection department in Giza earlier announced sending eight fire engines to the scene to put out the fire.
