CAIRO – 31 May 2021: Egypt’s COVID-19 treatment protocol has been updated with new effective drugs being added, said Dr. Hossam Hosny, the head for the scientific committee to combat Corona at the Ministry of Health and Population.

This comes in accordance with the international protocols in terms of dealing with COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Hosny added that the number of patients infected with Black Fungus disease are still limited, ensuring the availability of drugs curing this rare fungal infection.

“Egypt has added a lot of medications specialized in curing Black Fungus as well as dealing with Coronavirus,” he said during a scientific webinar discussing the developments of the epidemiological situation of Coronavirus, as well as the black fungus infections.

“The black fungus has existed since ancient times and Corona is an emerging virus and they have no connection to each other, so it is not a requirement that a Corona patient be infected with the black fungus and it is mainly related to immunodeficiency,” said Dr. Hosny.

He added that if COVID protocols are applied correctly and in a proper manner, there will not be immunodeficiency, explaining that if a COVID patient is infected with the black fungus, this is because an improper treatment protocol that led to a lack of immunity, and this is what happened in some countries abroad.
