CAIRO – 24 May 2021: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that the two-state solution must be activated in Palestine in order to meet the people’s demands and achieve peace.

In a press conference with Jordanian counterpart Ayman al Safadi, Monday, Shoukry affirmed the need to reach a solution for the Palestinian issue in order to ban any possible future conflicts or aggressions.

He noted that the recent confrontation between Hamas and Israel caused humanitarian disaster.

Shoukry also pointed out that he has discussed ways to preserve the rights of the Palestinian people with the Jordanian authorities, as he conveyed a message from President Abdel Fattah al Sisi to King Abdullah II of Jordan, expressing the depth of relations between the two countries.

The Egyption Minster also stressed that the reconstruction of Gaza should be prioritized, as Egypt announced an initiative of $500M for the reconstruction operations that will take place in coordination with the Palestinian Authority to contribute to improving the living situation for the people in Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

“This vicious circle of destruction cannot continue,” Shoukry said, adding that this situation frustrates the Palestinian people.

“There is no substitute for allocating East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state, and we are fully committed to that,” Shoukry said, stressing that this issue is being addressed within the framework of the settlement and reaching a final solution for the conflict.

Jordanian Minster Ayman al Safadi stressed that protecting Jerusalem is an international Palestinian Arab responsibility. He added Safadi that there will be no peace without resolving the Palestinian issue.

Safadi has praised Egypt's efforts aiming at reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ending Israeli violations. He said that Egypt's role was and will remain important in pushing efforts to end the Arab-Israeli conflict, achieving durable peace and fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people.

The Jordanian top diplomat said that President Sisi sent a message to King Abdullah II of Jordan on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories including the recent Israeli escalations in the Gaza Strip and efforts aiming at ending the Israeli aggression and paving the way for a political solution.

According to Safadi, coordination between Egypt and Jordan has never stopped to rally efforts in cooperation with regional countries to achieve peace based on a two-state solution paving the way for establishing a Palestinian state with Al Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital.

He said the Egyptian and Jordanian governments work on important issues including ensuring the continuation of the ceasefire in Gaza, ending Israeli onslaught on the Palestinian enclave and making sure that the Israeli aggression will not be repeated.

He warned that the Israeli measures in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Al Quds, including the displacement and eviction of residents, would trigger a new conflict in the Palestinian territories.

Safadi called for ending violations at Aqsa mosque, pointing out that Jordan cooperates with Egypt and the international community to end the Israeli aggression and maintain the Arab, Islamic and Christian identity of Al Quds

He added that his country will receive US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to discuss with him efforts to calm down the situation, pointing out that intensive contacts are ongoing with European and Arab partners for continued coordination.
