CAIRO – 23 May 2021: UAE Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan phoned President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, expressing his support for Egypt's efforts in the Egyptian- mediated ceasefire between the Palestinians and the Israelis to achieve security in the region, reported the UAE news agency WAM on Sunday.

Since the announcement of the Egyptian Gaza-Israel ceasefire initiative on Thursday evening, several world governments welcomed the agreement that brought an end to the Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip after killing more than 200 Palestinians including women and children over 11 days.

The ceasefire is mutual and unconditional and also requires Palestinian groups in Gaza, who have been firing rockets at Israel in response to the Israeli assaults against civilians in Gaza and Jerusalem, to abide by the ceasefire.

As per Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives, two security delegations arrived on May 21 in Palestinian and Israeli territories to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza, official statements read.

This comes as an Egypt-brokered ceasefire came into effect on Friday 2 A.M. Palestine time (23:00 GMT).
