CAIRO – 17 May 2021: A security source at the Ministry of Interior has denied the validity of allegations mentioned in a joint statement by a number of human rights organizations claiming a prisoner is deprived his right to medical care.

On May 9, Nine human rights organizations have issued a statement calling on the release of the Human Rights Lawyer Mohamed Ramadan, claiming that Torah Prison has not heeded to Ramadan’s requests for health care and medical examination.

“What was mentioned in the statement is completely false, and comes within the framework of attempts to pressure the prison administration to provide the aforementioned prisoner some benefits outside the regulations and laws applicable to all inmates,” the source at the Ministry of Interior said.

The source further added that Lawyer Mohamed Ramadan receives all aspects of health care, and regular visits as other inmates in line with human rights valuesand principles to provide all means of care to the inmates of prisons nationwide.
