Japan bestows Order of Rising Sun on Tallawi

CAIRO - 6 July 2017 : Japanese Ambassador in Cairo Takehiro Kagawa has bestowed the Order of the Rising Sun (Gold and Silver Star) on Director General of the Arab Women's Organization (AWO) Ambassador Mervat Tallawy.

The ceremony, held in the Japanese embassy in Cairo, was attended by Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Wali, on behalf of Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and President of the National Council for Women Maya Morsi in addition to a galaxy of foreign ambassadors, public figures and prominent actors such as Nabila Obaid and Yousra.

Ambassador Mervat Tallawy expressed happiness over receiving the Japanese decoration, which comes in culmination of years of hard work in the Asian country.

Japanese Foreign Minister Fauio Kishida and Japan's Ambassador to Cairo Kizu Morikawa had sent a cable of congratulations to Ambassador Mervat Tallawy.

The Rising Sun medal was established by the Emperor "Meiji" in 1875 to be the first national award by the Japanese government on behalf of the Japanese Emperor.
