CAIRO – 5 July 2017: At a press conference Tuesday in Cairo, Ali El Mesmari, the Libyan military spokesman, explained how Qatar contributed to the turmoil currently taking place in the extremist-ravaged state of Libya.

Mesmari claimed that Qatar has turned out to be the prime haven for extremists like the Qatar-based and Qaradawi-inspired Ali al-Sallabi, who acted on behalf of the Islamists in Libya.

“Qatar has several supply lines in Libya. It supplies Ali Al Salabi; who is the leader of Al Qaeda in Libya, with shipments of weapons,” Mesmari said.

Salabi is involved in shipping weapons and arms to his brother Ismail in Libya. Those weapons were intended for Al Qaeda in Benghazi and to the Benghazi defense brigades, he said.

During the conference, the spokesman displayed a documentary showing an armored vehicle carrying the Qatari flag. That vehicle was fighting with Ansar Al Sharia in Benghazi against the Libyan special forces in 2014.

Ali al Sallabi, a prominent figure linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, once lived in Qatar and has strong links with the Al-Thani ruling family.

Mesmari also accused Qatar of attempting to illegally establish a strong foothold in Libya by deploying military aircrafts, adding that the tiny emirate exploits Libyan oil reserves, and coastlines to supply terrorists.
