Egypt approves China’s Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use

CAIRO - 27 April 2020: Egypt’s drug authority said on Monday it had approved China’s Sinovac coronavirus vaccine for emergency use.

 
Egypt has approved and received shipments of the Sinopharm and AstraZeneca vaccines, and has said it is preparing to produce up to 80 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine locally. It has also approved Russia’s Sputnik vaccine.
 
Mahmoud Yassin, Head of the Central Department of Biological and Innovative Products at the Egyptian Drug Authority, said that the authority licensed the vaccine after passing the necessary evaluation processes in the departments and laboratories of the Drug Authority, in accordance with global and local rules.
 
The number of vaccines that obtained an emergency use license from the Egyptian Drug Authority reached five vaccines, namely, Sinovac, Synopharma, Covishield Astrazeneca,  Sputnik V and AstraZeneca /AZD 1222.
