US, Italy press for full implementation of the Libya ceasefire agreement

CAIRO - 13 April 2020: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio in Washington on Monday to discuss the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in Libya, spokesman for the State Department Ned Price said in a statement.

 

They reaffirmed their support for the efforts of the Libyan people to restore unity to their country, hold national elections in December, and fully implement the ceasefire agreement, Price said.

 

Secretary Blinken and Minister Di Maio confirmed their consistent support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity furthermore discussed the need for Russia to end its dangerous military buildup in Crimea and along Ukraine’s borders, Price added.

 

They both reaffirmed a shared commitment to human rights, as well as the enduring ties of friendship and affection between the Italian and American people, he said.

 

The top diplomats celebrated the historic US-Italy relationship, including the establishment of diplomatic relations 160 years ago, and committed to renewing the deep and productive ties between the United States and Italy, Price noted.
