CAIRO – 25 March 2021: A Cairo Misdemeanor Court, headed by Judge Amr Mukhtar, sentenced “Cairo Metro harasser” to 3 years in prison and fined him LE 20,000 ($ 1,271).

The Public Prosecution ordered the imprisonment of the subway harasser for 4 days pending investigations for the accusation of an indecent act inside an only-women metro carriage on March 13, 2021.

A girl in the only-women carriage recorded a video for the harasser while he was committing indecent acts, and she later submitted the video to the police station. The convict has denied the accusation, saying he was handling his clothes.

However, his lawyer appealed against the court ruling and a retrial has been set on April 11.

Early March, a wave of anger dominated social media platforms in Egypt after a footage leaked from a surveillance camera in a residential building in Maadi district showed a man sexually assaulting a girl.

The video showed the man smiling and calling out on the girl to come to him, and then he took her near the stairs, where he committed his crime. The man was caught by a surveillance camera when he touched the young girl’s body and tried to carry her but the girl ran away. A door suddenly opened, and a lady showed up after she saw the pedophile on the camera installed on the first floor.

The video showed the child abuser trying to deny the accusation, while the lady was pointing to the camera as a proof of his crime. The man then left away, but the camera captured his face clearly. Some social media users circulated an account on Facebook that helped identify the man.
