CAIRO - 29 December 2017: Ghanem al-Qubaisi, the director of Qatar State Security (QSS), the Qatari Intelligence Service, denationalized Al-Murrah Qatari tribe in an audio leak broadcasted by Qatarileaks.

"If they like Saudi Arabia, they should stay there since they are originally Saudi nationals. Qatari nationals can protect their territories. I have nothing to do with the Turkish and their descendants; Qatari rulers and politicians are fully aware of the interests of this country. Al-Murrah grew ungrateful for this country; they did not exist in this country 50 years ago but now they forgot the prestigious jobs, high salaries, and luxurious houses they got from Qatar. They are ingrates for Qatar, the state that brought them from Saudi Arabia and trained them. This should never be the outcome of the Qatari generosity," said Qubaisi in an audio leak stripping Al-Murrah tribe of their Qatari nationality.

In September, leaders of the Al-Murrah tribe in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have warned Doha against harming their relatives in Qatar. The warning came after Qatar had stripped Al-Murrah tribal chief Sheikh Taleb and 54 family members of their citizenship, in a move slammed as "collective punishment" by human rights groups.

Sheikh Taleb recently confirmed in a video recording that Qatar had revoked his and his family’s citizenship. "My citizenship is not a gift from Hamad bin Khalifa – former ruler of Qatar. It was offered to me by Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani (who ruled Qatar between 1949 and 1960). Therefore … Hamad bin Khalifa has no right to revoke it."
