Italian to be taught as optional 2nd foreign language at Egyptian public schools

CAIRO – 14 December 2023: Minister of Education and Technical Education Reda Hegazy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Italian Ambassador to Egypt Michele Quaroni, as per which the Italian language will start to be taught as an optional second foreign language for preparatory and secondary stages at all Egyptian public schools.

This shall take effect as of the 2024/2025 school year.

Hegazy praised his ministry’s cooperation with the Italian side, especially in the technical education field. In this regard, he referred to the hotel school in Fayoum, where Italian is taught as a first foreign language.

The minister also pointed out to cooperation between the two sides at the Don Bosco technical schools.

Meanwhile, the Italian ambassador lauded efforts exerted by the education minister to upgrade the education system in Egypt and his continued interest in technical education.
