The Black Pyramid, the Red Pyramid and the Bent Pyramid give this region great prosperity. They are three of the five remaining pyramids form the original eleven pyramids at Dahshur. The Black Pyramid was built by king Amenemhat III during the Middle Kingdom of Egypt, while the Red Pyramid is the largest of the three major pyramids in Dahshur and it gets its name from the red limestone used to build it; it is also considered to be Egypt’s first attempt to construct a true smooth sided pyramid. The third pyramid, the Bent pyramid, is the oldest of these three pyramids; it was built during the old kingdom of Senefru.
