CAIRO – 2 July 2017: The German youth team succeeded in beating Chile 1-0 at the FIFA Confederations Cup final. Germany went into the competition seeking experience and returned with the grand prize.

Chile started the match hoping to score first and quash Germany’s ambitions. However Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal, the biggest names in Chile’s squad, missed many chances. It was Marcelo Diaz’s error on the edge of the box that gave Germany the opportunity to take the lead, when German midfielder Lars Stindl snatched the ball and scored a goal in the twentieth minute.

Marc Ter Stegen kept the ball away from the German net through a series of amazing saves against an onslaught of Chilean volleys.

German players paid back the trust of their coach, Joachim Low, by winning the trophy.

Germany won the competition for the first time in their history with a squad full of teenagers, but it doesn’t matter how old they are, at the end they are Germans.
