Mayar Sherif faces World No. 4 in the first stage of Roland Garros

Cairo, 26 September 2020: The draw for the first round of the Roland Garros championship resulted in a fiery confrontation for Egyptian Mayar Sharif.
 
Mayar Sharif, ranked 171, is the first Egyptian player (man or woman) to reach the main role of the prestigious Roland Garros tennis tournament, one of the Grand Slam tournaments.
 
In the first round of the tournament, Mayar faced the Czech Karolina Pliskova, ranked second in the tournament, and fourth in the world.
 
The first round matches will be held next Sunday, and the tournament matches are broadcast on beIN Sports 9.
 
In the previous roles, Mayar Sharif defeated Colombian Maria Camilla Osorio Serrano, American Katie McNally, and Italian Giulia Gato Montichoni.
 
The winner from the Mayar Sharif and Pleskova match will play in front of the winner from the Latvian match, Jelena Ostapenko, and the American Madison Pringle.
 
Pliskova, 28, previously ranked first in the tennis world in July 2017.
 
Pliskova reached the semi-finals of Roland Garros in 2017, and played the final of the US Open tennis tournament in 2016.
 
The first-round draw also resulted in a confrontation between Belarusian Victoria Azarenka and Montenegrin Danka Kovinich.
 
Veteran American Venus Williams also plays Slovak Anna Karolina Schmidlova.
 
Her younger sister, Serena Williams, plays against fellow countrywoman Christy Ahn.
 
Meanwhile, Tunisian Anas Jaber plays against Kazakhstan, Zarina Dias.
 
And Spain's Garbini Muguruza faced Slovenian Tamara Zidancic.
 
And Czech Petra Kvitova faces French Ossian Dudin.
