CAIRO - 16 June 2017: Zamalek player Mahmoud Abdel Razek Shikabala has apologized to his opponents – his hometown team – for a goal he scored in Thursday’s Zamalek-Aswan game, which may drop Aswan into Egypt’s second division.

Apologizing for the goal he scored in the last minutes of the game, Shikabala said he did not want the goal to drop the ‘sons of the southern jewel,’ as Aswan is known, to the second league. He added that he played his best in the game because Zamalek is now his home and has raised him, but said that does not mean he wishes Aswan to be relegated to the second division, as Aswan is the province where he was born and where his family lives, Super Kora reported Friday.

Zamalek captain Shikabala apologized for his goal at Aswan on Thursday which led his team to defeat his hometown. He did not celebrate his goal at Petro Sport Stadium, explaining that it was hard for him to celebrate when the goal came at the expense of his hometown team and could be the reason the team drops to the second division.

Aswan SC is currently in 15th place of 18 teams with only 25 points this season and risks relegation as the bottom three teams in the league will be relegated to Egypt’s second division.
