CAIRO – 28 March 2019: Egypt's national team goalkeepers coach, Ahmed Nagy, showed his admiration of the performance of Zamalek goalkeeper, Mahmoud Abdel Rahim, known as Genesh, who played the friendly game against Nigeria on Tuesday which ended with a 1-0 victory for Nigeria.

“I was impressed by his performance. He has made it harder for me to choose after his amazing performance,” Nagy told press after the game.

Genesh, who was handed his international debut on Tuesday, conceded a goal after seven seconds by a strike from Nigerian winger, Paul Onuachu.

Despite the early goal, Genesh played a great game and saved many chances from Nigeria strikers to score more goals.

Nagy added, “I enjoy working with many talented and experienced goalkeepers who battle to make it to the national team squad at the African Cup of Nations.”

Besides Genesh, Egypt has many goalkeepers who are candidates to be the national team's first choice at the African Cup of Nations including Mohamed el-Shennawy, Ahmed el- Shennawy, Amer Amer, Sherif Ekramy, Mohamed Awad and Mohamed Abo Gabal.

Egypt won the rights to host the tournament after being selected over South Africa.

The 2019 African Cup of Nations was initially scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon. However, Cameroon was stripped of hosting the tournament for serious delays in preparations.

Egypt is the most successful nation in the history of the competition as Egypt has won a record of seven titles including three in a row between 2006 and 2010
