Egypt loses to Chile at U-18 World Handball Championship

CAIRO – 8 August 2018: Egypt lost to Chile 23-12 at their opening game of the 2018 Women's U-18 World Handball Championship on Monday night at Legionów Hall, Kielce.

The Latin American side dominated the game from the start and they were leading 10-6 by half time. Chile’s dominance continued at the second half and they increased the gap in the score to win the game 23-12.

Farida Hany was the best player from the Egyptian team, having scored four goals.

Egyptian players hope to bounce back against Croatia when they meet on Wednesday night.




Egypt qualified for the World Cup as champions of the 2017 African Women's Youth Handball Championship in Ivory Coast. Egyptian players hope to achieve good results in their second participation in the competition.

Egypt’s squad for the tournament includes Nada Mamdouh, Samira Refaat, Rana Rady, Yasmin Emad, Sohila Khaled, Aya Tarek, Farida Hany, Shahd Ahmed, Laila Haitham, Yara Abol Dahab, Alaa Eslam, Salma Abdel Razek, Sandy Kassem, Habiba Goda, Farah Shazly and Lara Osama.

The World Cup draw put Egypt in Group B alongside Denmark, Hungary, Croatia, Chile and the 2010 World Cup winners, Sweden.

Poland hosts the competition in Kielce between Aug. 7 and 19.
