CAIRO – 27 June 2018: Egyptian Football Association put Morocco's current manager, Herve Renard, as their first choice to succeed Hector Cuper as Egyptian national team's manager, according to Moroccan reports.

Renard, who started coaching in Africa in 2008, led Morocco to shine in the 2018 World Cup.

Despite their early exit, Morocco gave amazing performances against 2010 World Cup winner, Spain, and 2016 UEFA EURO winner, Portugal.

Morocco lost to Iran 1-0 from an own goal seconds before the final whistle and lost to Portugal with the same score, despite being the better side at both games.

They ended their last game at the competition with a 2-2 draw against Spain and they were leading the score till the last minute.

Renard will have a meeting with Morocco federation next week to make a decision about his future step.

Egyptian Football Federation decided not to renew the contract with Cuper and his coaching staff after Egypt’s poor performance in the World Cup.

Egypt had a disastrous run at FIFA 2018, losing all three games at the group stage.
Egypt started their participation against Uruguay, where they lost 1-0 thanks to a late goal from Uruguayan defender José Giménez.

Egypt also lost the second game 3-1 to the host nation, Russia, with Mohamed Salah scoring Egypt’s only goal.

Egypt lost 2-1 at the Arab derby against Saudi Arabia, despite leading the score by a goal from Mohamed Salah. However, the Saudi team returned with two goals by each of Salman el-Farag and Salem al-Dawsri.
