CAIRO – 4 June 2018: Nawaf al-Abed, the winger of Saudi Arabia national team and Al Hilal, did not make it to the Saudi Arabian final squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Abed, who suffered a long term injury, failed to convince the national team manager, Juan Antonio Pizzi, to take him to Russia.

Al Hilal’s winger was a key player at Saudi Arabia's campaign to reach the World Cup in Russia.



Assaf al-Qarni, Mohammed Jahfali, Saeed al-Muwallad and Mohammed al-Kuwaikbi were also left home.



Pizzi’s chosen squad for the World Cup consists of:

Goalkeepers:
Yasser al-Mosaileem, Abdullah al-Mayouf and Mohammed al-Owais.

Defenders:
Osama Hawsawi, Motaz Hawsawi, Omar Hawsawi, Yasser al-Shahrani, Mansour al-Harbi, Mohammed al-Burayk and Ali al-Bulayhi.

Midfielders:
Abdullah Otayf, Taisir al-Jassim, Hussein al-Moqahwi, Salman al-Faraj, Salem al-Dawsari, Yahya al-Shehri, Abdulmalik al-Khaibari, Mohammed Kanno, Abdulla al-Khaibari and Hattan Bahebri.

Strikers:
Mohammed al-Sahlawi, Fahad al-Muwallad and Mohannad Assiri.

Saudi Arabia plays in Group A alongside Uruguay, Egypt and the host nation, Russia.

The kingdom’s team lost 3-0 to Peru during their preparations for the 2018 World Cup. They are set to face Germany on June 8 in their last test before the opening game against Russia on June 14.
