CAIRO – 28 May 2018: Egyptian Volleyball manager, Wael el-Aidy, announced on Monday that he refused to renew his contract as El Giash manager after five years of managing the club.

“I have achieved everything during my five years here with the club. We achieved two League titles, two cup titles and won the African Champions League,” Aidy posted on his Facebook account on Monday.

Aidy is one of the key players of Egypt’s historic volleyball generation that won the volleyball tournament of the Mediterranean Games in Almeria, Spain in 2005.

Aidy spent most of his career at Al-Ahly but he left in 2011 to join their local rivals, Zamalek; one year later he joined El-Gaish where he spent his last days as a player.

After retirement, Aidy was appointed El Gaish assistant manager and became the team head coach in 2016.

Aidy was appointed in April 2018 as an assistant to the national team manager, Mohamed Mselhy.

The new coaching staff will lead the national team at the 2018 Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain in June.
