CAIRO – 21 May 2018: Netherlands achieved the 2018 UEFA EURO U 17 title on Sunday as they defeated Italy at the final on penalties after the regular time ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Dutch team dominated the game since its start and they had two chances to open the score but their winger, Ryan Gravenberg, lost his first chance which hit the post and the second also missed the target.

Italy had a chance before the half time through Emmanuel Gyabuaa but the Dutch goalkeeper saved it to end the first half 0-0.

At the second half, the Dutch team needed only five minutes to open the score by Jurriën Timber.

Italy returned in the game 15 minutes later when Samuele Ricci equalized for the Italian side and they surprised the Dutch defense after two minutes when Alessio Riccardi scored the second goal by a stunning wide shot.

Netherlands equalized the score five minutes before the final whistle by Brian Brobbey to end the regular time 2-2 and take the game to penalties.

Netherlands scored four penalty kicks while the Italian team lost two and scored only one to crown the Dutch team champions.

“It was such an emotional game, even on the bench. Playing well, starting well, losing grip of the game then getting control in the second half, scoring, then in a couple of minutes going 2-1 down. It looked difficult to come back, but the team kept fighting and the subs made a difference,” Netherlands coach, Kees can Wonderen, told UEFA website after the game.

Netherlands achieved the third title in their history as they won back to back titles in 2011 and 2012.

England hosted the competition on May 4-20, 2018.
