CAIRO – 27 April 2018: Manchester United’s Portuguese manager, Jose Mourinho, revealed on Monday that he did not take the decision to sell Liverpool’s Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, during their time at Chelsea.

“People are saying that I'm the one who sold Salah, and it is the opposite; I was the one who bought Salah,” Mourinho told ESPN on Friday.

In 2014, Mourinho was Chelsea’s manager and he signed Salah from Switzerland’s Basel after his amazing contributions with the Swiss club.

The manager spoke about the difficulties Salah faced when he joined Chelsea, saying, “He came as a young kid, and physically he was not ready, mentally he was not ready, socially and culturally he was lost, and everything was tough for him.”

The Egyptian player failed to earn a position at the club and left after one year to Italy, where he played for Fiorentina and Roma.

“He is a fantastic boy and he knows I have a great care for him, and I’m really happy for the things that are happening for him; it is more than deserved,” Mourinho added.

Salah was named PFA Player of the Season after an amazing performance with the club, having scored 43 goals, including 31 goals in the league to be the Premier League top goal scorer, five goals ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.
