CAIRO – 27 March 2018: Al-Ahly faces Uganda’s Nemo Stars on Tuesday in the opening game of the Men’s African Volleyball Championship at Abdulla Al Faysal Halls.

Al-Ahly, the title holders, hope to achieve their 13th title in the competition, as the club has a record of 12 titles.

The competition draw held on Monday put Al-Ahly in Group A alongside Kenya’s Prisons, Ivory Coast’s Police, Congo’s Espoir, Lesotho’s Red Skins and Uganda’s Nemo Stars.

Al-Ahly manager Mohamed Mselhy commented on the draw, saying, “It is a balanced group that will give us a good start in the competition.”

The draw put Egypt’s Aviation in Group B alongside Libya’s Swehly, Cameroon’s Bafia, Benin’s Finances, Congo’s DGSP and Seychelles’ Swimbluepal.

Egypt’s Smouha plays in Group C alongside Cameroon’s FAP, Benin’s Police, Libya’s Ahly, Zimbabwe’s University and Congo’s Mwangaza.

Egypt’s El-Gaish plays in Group D alongside Cameroon’s Port, Algeria’s Olympique, Uganda’s Kampala, Kenya’s GSU and Ethiopia’s Wolaitta.

Mselhy announced Al-Ahly’s squad for the competition, which consists of Abdallah Abdel-Salam, Abdel-Latif Osman, Abdel-Halim Abo, Abdelrahman Hussein, Mohamed Adel, Ahmed Abdel-Aal, Hossam Youssef, Mohamed Abdel-Monem, Ahmed Qotb, Ahmed Said, Shokry Gwiny, Youssef Safy, Mohamed Moawad and Mohamed Ramadan.

Al-Ahly hosts the competition from March 27 to April 6.
